Before your appointment

A 12 hour fast is requested. Water is permitted. Tell the clinician if you take corticosteroids, as they can affect interpretation. Avoid unusually strenuous exercise before the test; the laboratory advises allowing 48 hours. Avoid alcohol before the test and confirm the requested interval with the clinic.

Tell your clinician about medicines, supplements and any testing instructions from your doctor. Do not stop prescribed treatment without their advice.
